WordPress Version 5.0 release (AKA Gutenberg) just around the corner

There will be a new version of WordPress rolling out very shortly and may affect your WordPress website. Nicknamed Gutenberg after Johannes Gutenberg, the inventor of movable type that led to a printing revolution in 15th century Europe.

GutenbergGutenberg is a redesign of the WordPress editor. It’s named after the Gutenberg of printing press fame. Like its namesake, the goal is to revolutionize the way we create and distribute content.

According to WordPress.org The editor will endeavour to create a new page and post building experience that makes writing rich posts effortless, and has “blocks” to make it easy what today might take shortcodes, custom HTML, or “mystery meat” embed discovery.

How can I test the Gutenberg editor?

You can test a live preview of Gutenberg by heading over to https://testgutenberg.com/ to experience a live demo of how the new WordPress editor works. Or, if you want to test it on your own site, the good news is you don’t have to wait until WordPress 5.0 is released, just go grab the plugin from here and install it into WordPress 4.9. https://wordpress.org/plugins/gutenberg/

Release Date: Tentative date is November 27, 2018.
